OCT ‘07: “Restore America: Impeach Bush & Cheney”

Posted by Web Editor on October 19th, 2007

For more than 20 years the Olympia FOR has produced one-hour TV programs on issues related to peace, social justice, economics, the environment, and nonviolence. The Olympia FOR’s program airs on Thurston Community Television (TCTV), channel 22 for Thurston County’s cable TV subscribers. Each program airs every Monday at 1:30 p.m. and every Thursday at 9:00 p.m. for a full month. This creates many opportunities to watch each program.

Our nation’s founders wanted to protect our liberty, so they created a Constitution with checks and balances to prevent any branch of government from getting too much power. The Bush-Cheney regime has been violating the Constitution, the separation of powers, and federal laws repeatedly and without remorse. Our nation’s founders wrote impeachment procedures into the Constitution and intended them to be used in cases like this. While other countries might suffer violent coups to topple unjust rulers, impeachment is the nonviolent Constitutional solution for removing lawbreakers from office and restoring checks and balances.

Local people have come together in a non-partisan way to protect the Constitution. They formed an Olympia-based organization, the Citizens’ Movement to Impeach Bush and Cheney. Three active members of this group — Kerri Griffis, Jerry Smith, and Gail Johnson — are guests on the Olympia FOR’s October TCTV program. They lay out the reasons why impeachment is necessary now, assess the current prospects, and offer ways for more people to join this growing people-power movement.
